Active School Flag – The St Dominic’s Journey Begins

We are delighted to begin the Active Schools programme here in St Dominic’s for the first time. As well as our Green Schools programme, for which we have been awarded six flags with a seventh in progress, we are now on the journey to an Active School Flag.

The purpose of this programme is for the school to promote physical activity, PE and partnerships with parents, local clubs and other groups. We want to see our pupils become more active, more often.

A staff group has been set up to coordinate the programme. There is also a pupil Active School Committee comprised of ten pupils from 1st to 6th Class.

We are launching our Active School programme with a slogan competition this week. We will also began four weeks of an “Active Break Every Day” later this month, involving active breaks in class or on the yard. We will be encouraging more pupils to sign up to local clubs via our Join A Club Showcase next week, and will be working over the course of the school year on new yard activities, running challenges, and other fun, active events.

We will keep parents informed via the website. If you are a parent with an interest in helping out or getting involved, please contact Ms Pyne or Mr Looney.
