World War One
Fifth class were learning about World War One back in November and December to coincide with the centenary of the Armstice on 11th November. We learned about the origins of the war and about the Irish contribution, which was overlooked until lately. The class watched the four part Nationwide special on WW1, which is available on RTE player.
Linking with our First Steps topic of report writing, the class put together projects in groups or individually and presented them to the class. Check them out below…
The class also made silhouettes of war symbols on a camouflage background. Lots of blackened hands and uniforms in making them with black pastels but some fantastic and striking images were produced.
We ended the topic by examining how the war ended and the consequences going forward for countries involved and developments in technology, weaponary and even our everyday vocabulary!!
