Basketball Team unlucky in Garda Championship

Our Basketball Team gave a great account of themselves on Wednesday in the National Basketball Arena. Playing against 5 local schools St Dominic’s showed all their skill and style on the court. Under the guidance of our Basketball coach Bernie D’Arcy,  we had great wins against St Thomas’s, Glenasmole and Scoil Santain to bring us top of our group.  However, a loss by only a single score against local team St Mary’s left us just missing out on a place in the semi final. The players were disappointed after working so hard but were content in the fact they gave 100%  on the day and proud to be able to represent their school in Ireland’s National Basketball Arena.

We had some wonderful displays of skill and courage too numerous to mention over the course of our 5 matches.  Scores at vital times from Laura, Ciaran, Mushin, Stewart, Lauren and Sean kept the scoreboard ticking over and with some great interceptions and turnovers from Cain, David, Robyn, Jordan and Filip ensured we were able to keep control of all our matches. But it was Rachel who was named MVP for some brilliant displays of defending and team play. After our last game we all went back to Dominics and got a well deserved ‘chipper’. Mr Vaughan apologies again for making a mess of the order!!

Our thanks goes to Garda Darren Rooney who organised the event on behalf of Tallaght Community Policing. Also a big thank you to Bernie D’Arcy,  our Basketball coach, who trained our 5th and 6th pupils all year. The pupils responded so well to her and they improved greatly in the space of a few weeks.
