Senior infants had a great time on our school walk! We walked 2km – luckily the rain held off! We had a nice rest when we came back to school.. Though there were a few who claimed they weren’t tired at all !!!! 🏃🏃
73 children from 3rd class to 6th class, including our new classmates from Scoil Cholmcille, enjoyed a wonderful tour of Croke Park today. Children were chosen for the trip for their efforts in our school sports teams this year – Gaelic football, camogie, hurling, soccer, basketball and chess.
The tour included a visit to the dressing rooms, a run down the famous Croke Park tunnel onto the pitch, and a chance to speak from the platform where the captains receive the Liam McCarthy Cup and the Sam Maguire. We also got to sit in the VIP Ard Comhairle area, to travel to the highest seats in the stadium and to play lots of fun, interactive games in the GAA Museum.
Our tour guides, Cian and Stephen, told us all about the history of Ireland’s biggest and best stadium, including the story of each of the stands and Hill 16, and the terrible history of Bloody Sunday 1920.
Thanks to Mr Vaughan for organising, to Ms Hickey, Ms Shanahan, Ms Hogan, Mr Looney, Ms Brady and Ms Hoey for bringing us, and to all of our boys and girls who behaved themselves so well and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We can’t wait to go back some day in the future to play for the Dubs!
Well done to our athletics team comprising pupils from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes, who competed in the Cumann na mBunscol sprint events in Morton Stadium, Santry today.
There were great performances from all eight of our 4x100m relay teams, with many pupils running on a track for the first time.
Our individual sprinters were very impressive. Stuart (5th), Rachel (5th) and Paul (4th) all qualified from their heats to the final, with all three unlucky to lose out on medals.
But it was sisters Esther (3rd) and Jessica (6th) who ran best on the day. Jessica added to her 600m silver from Monday by taking home a silver in the 60m sprint today. Esther, competing for the first time in Santry, coasted to victory in her 60m final, taking home the gold to huge acclaim.
Well done to all who competed this year in Santry and in our cross-country competitions. Our athletics team were coached by Ms Breathnach and Ms Considine. Here’s to more success next year!
