Get the Summer Reading Buzz!

4th Class recently helped to launch the Summer Reading Buzz with South Dublin Libraries. Find out more about this great scheme below and check out our pics from the launch with Minister Fitzgerald, Mayor King and magician Jack Flash!

Love books? Like a challenge? Then we’ve just the thing for you this summer.

Children all over Dublin are invited to join a summer reading challenge in a wonderful initiative from public libraries. Going Places with Books: the Summer Reading Buzz aims to encourage children to read in the long summer break when reading skills can decline without the regular reading activity at school.

Children registering to take part in the Buzz will be given a Summer Reading Buzz membership card and asked to enter their name and library card number. Every time they read a book, their Summer Reading Buzz card is stamped with a specially designed Bee stamp. When they have completed the card (i.e. read 10 books) they simply hand the card into the library where it will be entered into a draw for fabulous prizes. There will be rewards along the way too with specially designed bookmarks, pencils, wristbands and bee stickers.

All the libraries in South Dublin are participating in the Buzz which was launched in Tallaght library on Monday 17th of June with the Minister for Children, Frances Fitzgerald. The minister spoke to the children from St Dominic’s school in Tallaght about the importance of reading and encouraged them all to join the library and take up the challenge.

So join the Summer Reading Buzz and Go Places with Books!

Summer holidays……

School closes on Friday for summer holidays at 12.00. It has been another great year in the school with our Fun Day last Friday a fitting way to end the year. Many thanks to the parents and staff who made it all happen. There will be a 2 page article in The Echo this week with plenty of pictures from the day.

The list of class teachers for next year will be on the website from Friday 5th July. The office will remain open next week for any parents that wish to collect tracksuits or pay book rental.

School re-opens on Monday 2nd September at 8.50am

Enjoy the summer holidays.
