Dominic’s deliver for the Dubs!!
Last Sunday, 60 pupils and parents visited Croke Park to help cheer on the Dublin football team as they played Tyrone in the Allianz Division 1 League final. With the support of St. Dominic’s NS, Dublin won with a score of 0-18 to 0-17.
We left St. Dominic’s school with much anticipation and when we arrived we took our seats in the Canal End (Dineen Stand). It was a very close match with no more than a point between the sides at all times. When substitute Dean Rock scored a fantastic point for Dublin the St. Dominic’s supporters went wild. This was just the inspiration that Dublin needed. Dean Rock scored again to give Dublin the lead with two minutes remaining. With time almost up Dublin scored once again to claim the Division 1 title for the first time in 20 years.
At the final whistle the St. Dominic’s supporters jumped from their seats to congratulate the Dubs. Some sixth class boys even did a dance on their seats! Great fun was had with everyone shouting ‘Up the Dubs’ all the way home.
Many thanks to the teachers (Ms Shanahan, Ms Pyne, Ms Hogan) who were in charge on the day.
The pupils that attended the match have all represented our school in either hurling or football this year. Much praise must go to the teachers (Mr Looney, Ms Gallagher, Ms Hickey, Ms Shanahan, Ms Hogan, Ms Breathnach and Ms Considine) who look after our sports teams during the year. GAA (hurling, football, camogie, and athletics) is at the centre of our after-school activities and the teams are managed by a dedicated bunch of teachers. They are not all from Dublin but we won’t hold that against them!
